Sithole is the name of a Mthembu prince who was born by a queen in Mgungundlovu which is modern day Petermartizburg in South Africa. He was called Sithole because ancient Zulu tradition held that baring twins was an evil omen and that one of the twins had to be killed. The Mthembu Queen fearing for her son’s life hid him in a pile of wood for his safety until it was safe for him. He was called Sithole which is Zulu and means “We have found” or “We have gained”. One of the Sithole praises in Zulu says “Phuma ngoba kufudumele” which is to say “you can come out because it is safe or warm”.
